We arrived in the late afternoon in Lisbon. After having a shower in our holiday apartment (Principe Real quarter) to combat fatigue, we followed our hosts recommendation and got a Merienda in that new snack bar near our apartment. Refreshed and full of excitement we started to explore the nearby Bairro Alto area. It was Sunday around 5 pm, and Bairro Alto have not woken up yet.
“We leave something of ourselves behind when we leave a place, we stay
there, even though we go away. And there are things in us that we can
find again only by going back there.”
Pascal Mercier,
Night Train to Lisbon
Lisbon: golden light, elegant, timeless, poetic and picture perfect
from every angle. Just few words that comes up when I think back of Lisbon.
My bestfriend said to me: resistance is useless. This city will enchants
you. I believed her and it was true. Lisbon, you are my soul city. And you know, I will going back to you.
My second East Fresian Island I've visited... Langeoog Island is located to the west of Spiekeroog Island which I've visited last year. A perfect weekend getaway for long solitary beach walks (14 km white sand beach!) and to breathe the healthy North Sea air.
Miradouro de Santa Catarina (locals also calls it "Adamastor") is one of the famous viewpoints in Lisbon. This place was the first I wanted to see on our first day in Lisbon. Loved by the young bohemian and the alternative and reggae singing types of folks. This vista point has a phenomenal panorama of the Tagus river, the 25th Abril bridge and the Rio imitation "Christo Rei". Enjoy this place with an ice cold and cheap beer from the little kiosk/bar during Lisbon's very own Lusco Fusco - the blue hour - which is the span of twilight between sunset and night.
The Algarve with its glorious sunshine through the year and fine white sands is a perfect dream place. When my parents-in-law suggested to spend Christmas (2007)in the Algarve, my mom and I were on fire. For my mom and me it would be our first Portugal vacation and the idea to spent Christmas in the sun was just heavenly.
This dramatic panorama is Algarve's most famous: the buff-coloured cliff, the clear blue Atlantic Ocean, endless beach, pine trees, whitewashed buildings and of course the warm light of the Mediterrenean sun.
It was the first Christmas I spent with my family outside of Germany and not in the Philippines.
