Spiekeroog Island: A Silent World

Spiekeroog Island

I spent this year's Easter Holidays with Kevin's lovely family at the North Sea. Kevin's family lives in a small town between the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven, located in the northwestern part of Germany. From Berlin it only takes about 4 hours by car (see map) to breath the fresh and healthy North Sea air which means that we are frequent visitors at his parents house over the weekend. Besides the family part, Kevin and I are always taking the opportunity to spend some time at his native region to relax on a white beach and enjoy its exceptional natural scenery.

The German North Sea is famous for its bracing air, white sandy beaches as far as the eye can reach, rugged coastlines, the Wadden Sea and islands that exude style. One of these islands is Spiekeroog which we visited last Saturday with Kevin's parents Karin and Kalle for a day trip. Spiekeroog (pronounced "Speeker-Oog") is one of the seven East Fresian Islands, a chain of Islands that line the Lower Saxony coast between the Dutch border and the Elbe river mouth (see map).
